This paper focuses on the historical evolution of the concept of asylum through the analysis of a selected set of data collected in two national databases: DoGi – Dottrina Giuridica (Legal Doctrine) and IS-LeGI – Indice Semantico del Lessico Giuridico Italiano (Semantic Index of the Italian Legal Lexicon). Both services represent a very rich source of legal language from different legal stakeholders (legislators, judges, legal scholars), illustrating the evolution of legal terminology over time. After a brief presentation of the two databases used, the paper outlines the methodological approach adopted for data collection and analysis. A detailed discussion of the results follows, with the aim of highlighting the main points of interest relating to the historical and semantic development of the concept of asylum in Italian legal language.
