The text examines the long-standing issue of the poor readability of Italian legal and administrative texts, which hinders comprehension, especially for immigrants and those without legal expertise. Despite various attempts since the 1980s, the situation remains critical and generates inequalities. The PRIN project Migrants, Institutions, Translations, Easy-to-read Law (2022) aims to analyze and simplify these documents, with a focus on employment contracts. The objectives include simplifying the language, facilitating translation, promoting digital services, and fostering integration. The project uses qualitative and quantitative analysis, artificial intelligence, and principles of legal design, involving focus groups with immigrants. The ultimate goal is to create a corpus of accessible document models in various languages. The essay pays tribute to Alfredo Fioritto, a pioneer in promoting clear and accessible administrative legal language for citizens, highlighting how clarity and accuracy in communication are essential to avoid disputes and ensure fairness.
