Law is a constitutive element of social life.
The cultural and religious pluralism of contemporary societies raises issues related to encounters between people belonging to different cultures or religions. To solve the consequent problems we have to become able to manage the inevitable “cultural shock” that can derive from such situation. In this context, jurists are asked to create a synthesis between legal norms and the plurality of cultures. The function of legal professionals must therefore evolve to guarantee the best possible solution for all.
Hence the need for the figure of the “intercultural jurist”, that is, the need for professionals who know how to take on, and adequately solve, legal conflicts arising from the religious and cultural tensions of society. Without this crucial interface, society will continue to face insurmountable obstacles to the development of a peaceful religious multiculturalism.
